Maintenance & Repairs - September 2007

Hi, my household had three pairs of my car keys and I lost two of them, including my car remote. Having one car key won't be enough because my parents need a copy too just in case. How do I order a new key and remote?

Here's the situation.
My current car has 123,000 miles on it. Today the alternator went bad. We thought it was the battery at first because we couldn't even test the alternator because the battery was seven years old, so we placed that. $85.00. Then it was the alternator on the car. It's going t run at about $220 to fix it after taxes, labor, etc. Then I need my breaks in the front replaced. Not sure how much that is. Also need the transmission fluid flushed as well, which is for sure $100 or so. The car is getting a little rusty as well, but runs fine (when it works - right now it won't even turn on). I'm getting ready to move on my own in a few months, i'm curious as to if I should buy a new car (leased preferably) or if I should stick with what I have, pay $500 + to repair it, and keep it till it dies for once. Any thoughts?

The batteries are working O.K. now. He filled them with a Blue Liquid and let them set. He might have done something else but I'm not sure. Anyway, I was told by others they wouldn't last long. He assures me they will last because of the "Magic Treatment - Blue Liquid". I was charged a good penny! Does anyone know of this process? What is this blue liquid?

They say it is suppose to dissolve the rust, how well will this work, I have surface rust, no holes, about 7 inches long. What else would I need ?

My boyfriend barley tapped someone elses car. If I turn it into my insurance, do we have to pay our $500 deductible to get her car fixed. No damage done to our car just hers. The damage is only $547 to fix. Any info would be great.

Okay so I have a 1986 BMW 325i. And lately It has been acting like it is on it last legs, but I don't want to sell it. (for one I've gotten attached to it --its my first car, and two I think that it would be more fun for me to work on it)So the most I have done is change the oil on a car, that is the extent of my automotive matenince abilities, I just need to be told what to do to my car.
So here are the symptoms:
when I shift it into gear (reverse or drive) it will like bounce,
then when I'm driving just altogether it's just loud (or at least louder than a car that size should be) and I don't think it is the exaust because i just had that repaired a couple months ago. And when I floor it when I am on the freeway, or getting on the freeway, it has a bit of a delay(like a second or two).
And the air conditioning doesn't work(but the vent works and the heater works).
So what Do I need to do?

I have a black 97 towncar. the paint looks great but im starting to see white spots on the trunk and the roof. can i cover it up with touch up paint or will this make it worse. any advice or ideas would be appreciated!!!

On a 2004 nissan maxima. The car acts like it's dead and when i try it 2 minutes later, it starts. It does this in the morning and at work. I'm thinking the starter. What do you guys think?

Okay,
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. 4.0 engine.
The check gage light came on, the needle was on H.
I flushed the radiater.And put in new fluid.
Still runs hot. When I go to cut the car on in the morning the needle is on cold, then after driving about 5mins it goes to the middle where it always is, then after 10mins it goes to the H, then it goes between the middle and H, so I would say still hot.It stays that way for a while then repeats everything over again.I only speed up to about 45mph or slower, I haven't tried to go over. I cut the A/C off, but makes no difference if I run it or not, still heats up.Do I need a new thermostat or what?? Everything under the hood sounds the same to me.Could it a be leak?Please Help!! Thanks.

I have a 96 ford explorer with 180,000 miles.For the past 2 weeks when I drive,its been acting up.I can get it up to 30 mph but then it starts to pull like it doesnt want to go any faster.But then If I let off the gas it kicks into 3rd gear and I can go 35-50 with no problem.could it be as simple as changing the filter or does it sound like the actual transmission is going out

I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent. For the last month there is a very loud humming noise coming from the right side of my car. When I turn left the noise disappears, when I turn right the noise intensifies. I had a mechanic friend of mine look at the car. He said my brakes and axel look great. He replaced a bearing leading to my tire. He was sure this is what was making the noise. Well it didn't work. The noise is still there. He is certain that its not my engine (the belts and hoses are in good shape). He thinks that when I had my transmission replaced in May that the mechanic may have done something to the undercarriage, when the transmission was dropped.. My friend doesn't do transmission work so he can't help. Does anyone have any ideas???? Has this ever happened to anyone???

I hit a deer (actually it hit me) and my passenger side bag deployed. I have seen kits sold on the interent that say you can recharge them for a fraction of the cost. I don't have insurance to cover this type of accident and the quote for getting the repair done is approximately $5000. Other damage includes a new hood, grill and possibly bumper. Oh and the seatbelt on the passenger side has to be retensioned.

Apparently with newer vehicles (mine is an Altima 2004) when one deploys you need to buy a set of airbags because they have to be reprogrammed together or something like that???

But, can you recharge the one and then get it reinstalled and then get the system reprogrammed?

Please help me if you can.

I have a 97 Accord, I've taken my car several times to get the boots, cv joints, or whatever the hell is up in the front to get fixed, the last time i took it, Honda said that they greased one side and that it was my transmission causing and making the same exact sound now. Are they feeding my bull ****?

making my own rv out of a schoolbus..have a generator, converter box to change 120 v to 12 v when necessary, solar panels to hook into system, and a 2500 watt inverter. Most of the appliances are 120 volts..only the water pump is 12 volt. I need someone to help with hooking up this system...

I got this truck last year and it was in great shape. The previous owner took terrific care and kept up with the maintenance on it, he even gave me his very detailed maintenance log.

However, I didn't see an notes about having the clutch repaired, replaced, or serviced. Is there a certain mileage when I may want to get this very import part looked at?

i had the theremostate check it aint that, i check to make sure there was enough antifrezze which there was, so it is not that, here is my question ok where the fan is little bit over to the left there is this black thing it looks like it might be a filter, do those car have a fan filter that needs to be changed

its a maunal trans,,,,,,,it idle so low that it cuts off and when it doesnt cut off it makes the battery light come on. once im on the road its fine

I recently took my explorer (2001 xlt, 4door) in for a smog test and I failed the test. My overall test results showed that I PASSed the visual inspection and PASSed the emissions test, but FAILed the functional check. The code (P0117) showed that the engine coolant temperature sensor was showing low input. does anyone know how much it would cost to fix this? I live in California... Also, because it showed that code as having low input it caused my Check engine light to come on

I was washing washing my truck..its dark blue ..very hot outside with some soap and water..well got done the front was washing off the back and all of a sudden I notice white dots all over..I can scratch them off with my fingernail..so there not scratches in the paint..but WTF are they?! I have a severe loss of power when accelearting. I cant get it above 10mph in 1st gear, 20 mph in 2nd and 75mph in general even with he foot to the floor. also when at top speed and on the motorway it dies and you have to take your foot off the accelerator and the put your foot to the floor to get it to pick up again. any ideas?

I have a screw lodged in my back left tire, which obviously causes it to slowly leak air. Today I noticed a loud clicking noise during acceleration from that area and also noticed that I cannot accelerate nearly as quickly as before. I could barely make it up a small incline back to my house. Could this noise and trouble accelerating be related to the low air in my tire (it was at 11 psi. I wasn't aware until now that it was losing air so rapidly.)

Can a wheel come off a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD?
(Front left driver side)

The bearings are shot on the left side and my mechanic says that the wheel can come off.
On the other hand, my dad says no it can not.

I had no humming sound, though when I make a left turn, sometimes there is a clunking sound. The mechanic did not feel anything, but when they put it up on the lift, the left wheel wobbled. Never the less, I will be paying $461.00 tomorrow to get it fixed. YIKES!~!
So, can my wheel fall off and how?
