The problem is that the place I need to get the tires from is about 40 miles from my house. So A. do you think the donut will make it that far? and B. how fast do you think I can drive on it? I'm driving a 97 Ford Taurus.

I'm replacing two different types of bulbs - one of which is rated 12v 10w and the other is rated 12v 5w and I'm a little confused about what rating bulbs I can use as replacements. Do both values have to be exactly the same in the replacement bulbs or can one / the other / both be higher or lower than the original bulb's rating?

My handbrake does not hold the car on steep surfaces. When I engage it in gear, it works OK, but if it is not in gear, the car slips. The car is second hand, but I've only just bought it. The mechanic I took it to suggested that it could be because the car has been stationary for a long while (in the dealer's forecourt). The mechanic suggested I wait for a week to see if it improves. Does this make any sense?

I know that an out-of-round tire vibrates the car badly the faster you go and yet can still be dynamically balanced perfectly on the technician's spin balance machine.

I was rear ended yesterday in my Saturn by a Ford F150. It left minimal scuffing (it knocked me a little bit but I didn't move) but everything else seems to be in order. I took down his name, number, e-mail, and address, but did not alert the police because there was minimal external damage and I know how they get if you call them out over something so petty. Plus I still have the 24 hours to make the report if there were any damages. Now, he said he would pay out of pocket since the damage to my car was simply scuffing instead of having to hassle the insurance companies. How do I know if there was any internal FRAME DAMAGE though? What does scuffing normally cost to fix anyway?? Help me out on this one. I have limited time. Thanks!

I bought a car about 15 months ago and ran a carfax report which came back clean. Now I need to sell the car and someone told me that they did a carfax report and it came back with inconsistent millage. Why did this not show up initially when I purchased the car? Is there anything I can do? If someone changes the millage isn't that illegal? Can I find out the specifics of when the change of millage occured? From my research I've learned that carfax is apperently a waste of money and often either lacks info or places false info on accidents and millage in the report. So am I screwed with a car that may have a lot more miles than the 60K I think it has?

I just bought a used Toyota and had it inspected by an independent mechanic (who said the brakes were in great shape). The car is also under manufacturer's warranty. In the past couple of weeks, the brakes started squealing for the first 2-3 stops after starting the car....then everything quiets down. Should I be concerned?

Also, it's been raining a lot lately. Could it be moisture?

I want to drop about an inch to an inch and a half, and i REALLY don't want to just cut the springs. I've heard that's really bad for the shocks.

I'd like to clean the family car. The body wash and interior detailing looks easy enough but would anyone have any tips on how to approach an engine wash? Just a general wash to make the engine look spiffy new.

add: Something I heard from our local mechanic was that I should not get the alternator wet. This valid?

I took my truck to the shop because of an oil leak. They had to drop the transmission and fix the oil pan, gasket, pump, and anything having to do with oil. I brought it home and it was ok. This morning it is shifting really hard, the abs light is on, and it doesnt read the speed on the dash.Any thoughts on why its doing this....

I am no techy so go easy on me.To avoid the problem of having the windscreen scratched as you run the wipers, is it not possible to have a mechanism where high pressure air is blown (maybe even from the water nozzles or nozzles located at the same angle) to displace the dust?just a thought.
