Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a new key for a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2? It looks like I'm gonna need one, and I'm just wondering how much this is gonna cost. Do I have to go to the dealer for this?

Go back to the authorised car agent to do it. I believe Escort's car keys need electronic encoding for the duplication. I believe it will cost $80-150 per piece.

Here's how you can tell: If your keys are all metal, you can have keys cut at a hardware store for a couple of dollars each. But if your keys have black plastic over the top portion, or if you can see an unusual square of metal protruding from the key near the teeth, you'll have to get your keys from the dealer. Those keys have microchips in them, and the microchips have to be coded to your car or else you won't be able to start the car. Those keys can be pricey -- I was told it would cost me about $80.00 for my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix keys and the fob that unlocks the door/trunk, so if you need the key only I'm thinking it would cost less ($50.00 - $60.00).

A regular key at a locksmith is 5-15 dollars. A key with the computer chip in it is 60-90 dollars. you can go to a locksmith and have it made or you can go to the dealer. Check their prices first. Sometimes the dealer is cheaper. Good Luck.

If it is a chipped key it will cost you around 71.00 to have it programmed, at-least that's what my dealership charges. No Idea on exact price of the key itself. Best bet is to go to a local Ford dealership.

No most likely not have a copy of the key made at a locksmith . they are relatively simple and hide this key somewhere . Usually around 5.00 I would say since it is a car key.

it'll depend on whether your keys have the microchips... if you do have the chips, then it'll cost you a chunk of change... but if you don't have the chips, then take it to somewhere like, wal-mart, where you can get a duplicate for less than $3...

DEALER PRICE WOULD BE BETWEEN $50.00 TO $75.00 + TAX.

BRING PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OR THEY WILL NOT CUT THE KEY.
