Since he was shifting, a 400CID. Burt's model didn't come with a 455.

The Bandit Special Edition TransAms came with two motors. The four speed version came with Pontiac sourced 400 CID engines. The automatic versions came with 403 CID engines from Oldsmobile. Earlier black and gold edition models did come with the larger 455 engines, but not the '78-79 versions seen in the movies.

I am pretty sure it was a 455 Pontiac.
