If the diaphram is not broken, you can typically remove the EGR valve and clean out the carbon deposits that usually clog it up (the usual cause of failure for the EGR valve).

If the diaphram was damaged, the only way to fix is to replace.

Who is saying you need to service yor EGR? A 5 year old car shouldnt have problems with it. Is it failiing emissions?

i had the same problem with a 94 blazer. what i did was before it went completely was take it out to some backroad where you can run at a high rpm for a few miles. that has worked for me. sometimes it is just best to replace them.

I don't play with them, just replace them. When doing so, make sure the ports are cleaned out also.
