I hit a deer (actually it hit me) and my passenger side bag deployed. I have seen kits sold on the interent that say you can recharge them for a fraction of the cost. I don't have insurance to cover this type of accident and the quote for getting the repair done is approximately $5000. Other damage includes a new hood, grill and possibly bumper. Oh and the seatbelt on the passenger side has to be retensioned.

Apparently with newer vehicles (mine is an Altima 2004) when one deploys you need to buy a set of airbags because they have to be reprogrammed together or something like that???

But, can you recharge the one and then get it reinstalled and then get the system reprogrammed?

Please help me if you can.

Never recharge or repair an airbag that has deployed. If the recharged one goes off on its own it can cause another accident or kill someone.

If cost is a concern for you find a used air bag (meaning one from a junked car that has never deployed).

Airbags are destroyed when they're used. You just replace the whole module. There's no way the passenger bag should have deployed without the drivers bag deploying. The drivers bag must be defective. You also have to know how to inspect the sensors that set it off.
$5000 is insane for the damage you quoted. You need to shop around for repairs some more.

never heard of that one, you will need a new airbag or one out of the junkyard thats the same thing that hasn't been deployed.
