Maintenance & Repairs - August 2007

I have had difficulty with this shop. I posted a question earlier about this. My car is on its third auto shop. It sucks but im trying to make the best of it. Looks like my car is finally going to be up and running. The second shop FOLDED and they gave my car to this shop next door which told me they would finish the work.

im exicted and I want to pay them for a job well done once its done but lately a lot of "problems" have come up and I dont want to be ripped off. I think since its a corvette he might think i have a lot of money...i dont! i had to take out a loan to cover repairs.

ill pay if he does a good job and is honest with me. But what if he tries telling me all this "extra" work. I know about the mechanic's lien but anyway around it? I mean if worse comes to worse can I just have a tow truck stop by and pick it up to remove my car out of there.

yes i know my car title will be affected but how? Bank has my title until its paid off in 4 years.

The emergency brake light in the console is always on in my sisters 2000 Mazda Protege. I checked the brake fluid and it is about half full. Also when I'm driving it, the brakes squeek sometimes. Could a brake fluid change solve this or are the brakes totally shot and need replacing?

I thought my transmission was going out until today when I drive my car more than half pedal and the rpm's jump from 2k to 4k like the transmission is slipping and when driving u have to let off the gas for it to shift at times it gets worse the longer its driven smd today I removed the fuel filter to test it by blowing through it welll when I put it back on nothing I removed it to make sure gas was going through it and thats when I discovered the fuel pump was not working even though I had just drove the car an hour before with lots of trouble I couldn't barely make it over 40mph and the transmission seemed to slip could the fuel pump have made the car not let the rpms go up enough for it to shift right? 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 4cyl aurtomatic any ideas would be great thanks.

I have a 2005 pontiac sunfire and my front driver side tire wobbles when i hit 55 mph BUT also it pulls to the passenger side really hard. Any advice will help a whole bunch.

Ok I'm trying to recharge my Chevy G20 Van's a/c and have never done it b4 and I'm having problems....The compressor wasn't kicking on because the freon was so low...I checked it (with engine off) and it read about 20 psi...I started the engine and added some freon and the compressor started coming on but was cycling on and off....the pressure guage would read 55 psi and the compressor would kick on n drop it down to 25 psi and shut off and keeps doing it repeatedly every 2-3 seconds....I drove it some to see what it would do and it kept doing this and blowing warm air....I checked pressure again (with engine off) and it read 80 psi......am I over charged?...still undercharged or what...Idk if I am supossed to check it with engine on or off but with it on it goes between 25 psi n 55 psi with compressor cycling grr please help.

2000 dodge intrepid car started making strange lite noise 3 days ago coming from near engine next to where you put the power steering fluid i didnt think nothing of it till today i was 1 block away from home while making a right turn my streering wheel all of a sudden got real real heavy almost caused an accident lucky me i was near my house parked my car in the backyard can someone tell me what to check and also what you may think i might need to fix thank you...

My 95 sunfire started overheating last week. So I took it to the mechanic.

The tested it and said that it is the head gasket. They said to replace it would cost 1500CAD and if it was cracked would cost around 2200CAD.

I'm just not sure if this sounds right. 2200 is probably more than the value of the car!

What should I do?

I have a 1991 Geo Storm With a 5 speed transmission. The book tells me to put GM No.12345348 or equivalent in for the fluid. On the Spectrum ti says to use 5w-30 oil. Is that the same or do I need special fluid?

There is a warning lamp lamp showing up on my cavalier once in a while, and very quickly, but it's odd. I bought it used so I don't have the owners manual, and I want to know what the lamp is. It's like, an arrow pointing down into a box with a wavy line. I think it's the low coolant light or something.

when i start my 98 grand prix gtp(sc) 98000 miles, the engine lunges forward quite a bit(but doesnt contact anything), it barely even vibrates after it starts running. is this movement normal or should i have it looked at?

It came on this morning while i was driving to work, the oil level was a bit low so I topped it up, the coolant is fine and so is power steering. Does any body know any other (easily recifiable problems it might be?) solutions......

Road trip home, changing drivers & my seatback needs to be brought back up. Well when I lift the level handle to adjust the seatback nothing happens; usually it would automatically raise the seat back up. This is not an automatic one, it is a basic model of an 2002 Ford Focus, can anyone PLEASE help me....I CANNOT drive with the seat back pushed this far back.

I have a 1998 Mustang. The A/C has been charged and was working fine. All of a sudden the air began to blow warm. I noticed that the compressor wasn't turning on. Before I buy a new one, is there anything I should look into first? The compressor did turn on for a few seconds, at which time the air blew cold, but then it shut off again and stayed that way....

I've acquired a old MG which I want to restore. There is quite a bit of surface rust on the vechicle which I want to remove, treat the metal with POL-15, and respray.

I'll be doing this in sections over several winter months. Can anyone recommend a good air compressor, spray gun & sand blaster accessories - for DIY not silly money!!!

My mechanic charges me $160 every summer to keep the air conditioning running. He has indicated to me that the car can be sold for $1,000. The blue book value on the car is around $1,400. It has around 131,00 miles along with a couple of dents. It just passed the emmission inspection.There are no other problems with the car. Also, my investments into this car are that the tires are new, and it has a really nice stero system/speakers with an extended warrenty. What would be a reasonable price to sell this car?

I have a 94' Pontiac grand prix se. the passenger side window will roll up from the driver side controls, but will not roll down. it does both for the passenger. i am thinking that it has shorted or a wire broke or something from the driver controls. and how do you take the door inside paneling off, isn't it just a few screws and or pins? if i need to do that to fix something on the passenger side i will also replace the speaker that is blown that is driving me crazy listening to it raddle.

Is it possible to get my car inspected if i turn off the check engine light? My dad is taking it to a man tomorrow to see if he can get it inspected but i don't know if it will work. Should i get my hopes up? Its the transmission that is coding.

It seems as if whenever I am on the freeway, my steering wheel will slighty shake. Is it my tires or do I need an alignment? I am assuming these may be the problem. If there are other possibilities please let me know. Thanks!

The steering is not locked- i can jerk the wheel back and forth and nothing- the key hole stays at "locked" position. I've tried pressing down the break and turn in, jiggling the steering wheel and turning it- nothing.

My friend said that I can replace the ignition (in fact he did it himself). Is this possible? How much will it cost? '95 toyota 4runner

I took my car into an auto body shop, to get the bumper and tail light fixed, because I was in a car accident (which wasn't my fault). This shop was recommended by two of my friends, one who used to work there, so I was expecting them to do a really great job. I got home yesterday, and took a look at my car, and noticed that 1) the paint looks darker 2) the turn signal doesn't work and 3) my front head light is yellow. I called the shop, and the manager said that he would be more then happy to fix the paint and fix the turn signal, but that they did not touch the front at all. My car is an 03, and I know for a fact that the head light was not yellow when I dropped it off, because the other one is perfectly clear. They detailed my car, so I'm thinking that someone may have sprayed a chemical on it, or even worse... that someone switched it out. What should I do? Any advice?
