Ok guys for some reason when ever my tank is almost empty the gauge says its almost full or it changes from time to time. Like one time when we were almost empty it said we had a full tank about three seconds later it started dinging. I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. This isnt a problem im really worried about b/c i usually keep the tank full. Im just wondering why it does this. How exaclty does a gas tank tell how much gas is in there? Thanks!

I recently had the incident of having my rearview mirror fall off the window; and my mistake was attaching it backwards. So now I need to remove it and reattach it, this time the correct way. The only problem is that I can't get it to come off the window now. What is out there that I can use to take it off?

I've somehow managed to drive over some paint which has obviously got all over my tyres and the rear of my car. Its a new car and this doesn't look too attractive. Anyone got any ideas of how to get the paint off my car without messing up the car's original paintwork?

I have a 1996 Volvo 850.

The window goes down without a problem, but is very difficult to get back up. You have to sit there pressing the button for ~10 minutes before anything happens.

When you do press the switch, nothing happens at all. The motor doesn't make a noise.

Does this sound like it's a problem with the motor, the wiring, or the switch?

I have an 86 chevy S-10, 4 speed that wants to lock up and not roll easily I notice this only when the vehicle has been setting, the vehicle backs up fine. It only happens in first gear when I put it in first and go forward once it starts rolling its fine. I need some additional clues. Maybe the answer is right here and I am refusing to see it.

1.I have been told it can be the clutch, but it only does it in first gear. I have aslo been told thats unlikely

2. I been told it could be the rear end.

3. I been told it could be the transmission.

4.I been told that the emergency brake cable is too tight, and been told as a rule of thumb this is common with e brake problems because it is easier to back up than go forward. which may be since I replaced leaf springs on the vehicle.

5. I been told it could be a sticky wheel cylinder or the leg on the self adjusting brake mechanism is hanging up and wont allow the self adjuster to turn.

My car has smoke coming from the air vents. The ac works fine, but the smoke comes out when I don't have the air on. My car does not overheat. There is also an ugly smell, and the smoke will fog my windshield. Any ideas on what can be wrong?

It's my father's car. He uses an independent garage for repairs and they can't pin-point the problem. As it's an old car ( 1994 ) he can't justify throwing un-limited money at the problem - just wondered whether any one else might have had similar experience. Motorway driving is fine - lower speed on less even surfaces = knocking noise. Any ideas appreciated ( ideally from experience ) thanks.

My brother works in a machine shop, and he handles hot (glowing hot) metal all day. He could use a better pair of heavy duty gloves. I would spend up to $100.00, I know nothing of gloves, any suggestions.

The other day I side-swiped a mailbox and it broke the passenger side mirror cleanly off the car (2000 Chevy Cavalier). It left a spring about a foot long dangling off the car, which I assume was what anchored the mirror to the car.

Everything on the mirror is fine-luckily it didn't break the glass or anything.

How can I re-attach the spring inside the mirror and then put it back on the car?

My torque wrench does not read in "in-lbs". What for example is 150 in-lbs in foot pounds? My stablizer bar link nut torque spec is said to be 150 in-lbs. Why is it necessary to quote torque specs in both inch and foot lbs? How do I convert one to the other. Thanks much in advance. Jim Confused
