Im interested in buying an upgraded exhaust on my truck and Ive been looking around at different ones and i noticed that quite a few include no muffler and when they install them like in Trucking magazine they don't put one in .....
So what are the pros and cons for this? .... is it likely i will get a ticket? ......... any hp.. gains without it ? or anything?

yes, it is legal so long as another muffler replaces it.

there are laws about sound levels, so be careful not to make it too loud.

you should notice a bit more power, but expect it to be maybe a 5-10% increase, so its only barely noticable. its best when combined with an intake upgrade.

If you want my two cents a cop has to be a hard a*s to give you a ticket without a muffler on any diesel. The exhaust is naturally quite quiet.
I'm sure you hear Harley's every day with no mufflers at all and they (police) don't seem to give a damn.

Go for it dude!

you can remove the stock muffler on it but if its loud you will get a ticket for it ,that's for sure, they make performance mufflers for diesels also and this would be a good up grade to the truck,id rather have something on it as to not, this way they cant say anything about it,lots of times what you see in books wont apply to every day drivers, good luck on it.

Hard to say. It depends on how loud the truck is. Do they check real close on vehicles where you live? Do you have to have the reuck inspected? If the answers are yes to these questions then I wouldn't mess with it. You will gain a little with the less restrictive exhaust. I think I would wait until the truck is out of warranty before I go changing things. It is possible that they will void your warranty if you start removing or modifying things.

good luck.

In Wisconsin you need a muffler. Statute 347.39. You could end up paying a fine and will have to install a muffler.

A loud muffler will annoy your neighbors. They also make good cop callers.

You will get some hp gains ., turbo diesels take well to any kind of modification . It will be louder , but not annoying loud and cops seem to let it slide on trucks and motorcycles versus imports .

Open your owners manual and it will tell you not only how much but what kind of exhaust fluid to use and how often you should expect to have to fill it, the fluid is available at all major automotive parts retailers and might even be available in your local Wal-Mart auto section ( but I have not looked for it there yet - MY diesel does not need that stuff! )

I will give you a ticket then impound your truck and have it sent to the recycle shop
