I was backing up into a parking spot earlier today when my brakes stopped working. They just didnt work and then went stiff. I pulled my Ebrake so luckily i didnt hit anything/anyone. After I turned off and restarted my car it worked again. Earlier in the day the check engine light came on, possibly its related? Also 10 minutes before the brakes stopped working I took my in for an oil change. Anyone knows what might have happened? Is it safe to drive. The brakes seem to be working fine now but, I dont know what went wrong and if it could do it again. Any help would be appreciated!

Describe exactly what I might experience immediately and what eventual damage will occur if I didn't know there was sugar in the tank.

I used the emergency brake once in seven years and it locked up the left rear brake. One old time mechanic said he just pulls on the cable until it releases. I was told by another mechanic to drive in reverse and pump the brake pedal, which is supposed to release it also.

I've heard that when you hear a tapping noise in your engine it means it is either a rod knocking or valves tapping - which both are bad news for your engine. Is that true or could it be something else (like not serious)?

I went to a local Checker-Autoparts, they pulgged their thing in and it read that something was wrong with either my Oxygen Sensor..... or my Catalytic Converter. so I called a trusting mechanic and he said that that does happen, they do go bad but tend not to just go bad regualry in such a new car (200, Toyota Corolla). He said when they go bad in this new of a car it tends to be somethign else that has gone wrong with the vehicle.... would it be dumbto walk into this place with $400 and expect them to fix whatever it is that is wrong with my car? I am a minimum wage worker... i need to plan these things lol..... so jsut a base jusdgement, estimation on the priice would be wonderful

thanks guys

I bought new rims for my accord coupe and the guy who sold them and installed them for me told me not to let the tire pressure fall below 35psi. When I went for an oil change the guys that check the tire pressure were telling me that 35psi is too much for those tires and that those usually use between 30 - 32 psi.

There is a little box mounted under the rear passenger fender, gas seamed to be oozing out a little pipe coming out the top. I ask my mechanic he said i could do without use of this part. So i clipped tiny hose going to gas tank and capped it off. Then there is a bigger hose that goes into the engine i thought this went to the fan, thats where its mountedon top the black casing thats the whole back side of engine. I cut the hose under the fender that goes there, gas comes out. Should i let all the gas drain out which is draining from the fan and just let the hose hang freely under the fender? Im a new volks owner and trying to teach my self to take care of her so please excuse my ignorance and thanks very much for any help.

is there another fuse someplace that connects the two. The ac worked fine previously and so did the blinkers. They both went out at the same time. all lights, brakes work fine but no turn signals, front or back, just before the AC blower went, i turned the car on, and it didnt work. I turned it off, turned back on, and the ac came on. This happened a couple of times before it totally went blank. Radio works good, wipers, cruise not working. Any help appreciated.

Not sure if this will work or not, I know those jumper boxes have the juice to start the car. But do they have enough power to leave it connected to the battery to run the electrical long enough to get the car to a mechanic. having alternator issues. thanks

The alternator was replaced by removing right front wheel and going in underneath. On the way home I notice a "shimmery" noise I had never heard before on the right side. Took car back, they say boot on left front needs replaced and bearing on right front wneel needs replaced, supposedly due to nothing they did. The boot he knew about, the bearing he didn't...I asked why wasn't I told about the boot ..."well I was told to replace the alternator". He didn't remove where the bearing was to get to the alternator they say. They ordered the bearing twice, it is too small although they say that's what the catalog calls for. They say this means somewhere down the line someone replaced the spindle. The Hyundai place only has one more type of bearing it could be and they don't know if it will fit or not, but it is the only option left. It will be Tues or Wed before the part will come in. If that part doesn't work who knows what will be next. Am I being ripped off or does this sound legit?

I'm trying to sell my '95 civic that has 364k miles. Selling a high mileage car is not easy so I was wondering how to turn back the odometer. i'm obviously not turning it back to 0 miles, I just want to turn it back to the miles it states on the pink slip and say i had it garaged for a while. do you know how I can do this? Any help would be appreciated.

~Thanks~

I have a 4 Cyl Turbo 98' VW Passat and I love it. Lately it's been giving me a great load of problems and I'm up to my eyebrows in finacial burden. The car is paid for and I have already replaced all four rotors and brake pads. I'm well due for a timing belt change and all the other maintenance, plus some cosmetics that would help bring the value up. Now the windshield motor has gone out on me which makes it unable to pass the state inspection.

My question is: Should I tough it out and shell out the money for all that the car obviously needs or would it be better to purchase a new car if I can pay it off within a year or less than two years?
