i lost my car keys. is the key number the same as the vehicle identification number? i was told to look in the glove box, but since i bought my car old (13 years), it doesnt have much information. i dont have the owners manual either.

so the VIN works the same as a key #?

You have to take the VIN number of the car---it's on your insurance card or top of the left side of the dash, looking through the windshield---and a picture ID or DL to the dealer and from that info, they can cut new keys for the car.

The dealer should be able to replace your key using the VIN. I just had it done for my 95 saab
