Maintenance & Repairs - August 2007

I have a 92 olds acheiva, and it has been running hot during hot days in in-town traffic w/the ac on. Than if it gets extremely hot, when I park it, it will leak anti-freeze underneath, from the middle, up near the windshield, sometimes lots of coolant (like a faucet is on), sometimes not a lot. I took it to my mechanic, and he thinks it is a leak in the heater core causing all this. Does that sound right? Just want another opinion. Thanks

Can you please help me how to read the torque reading for a GENIUS 680600F and GENIUS 480250F I have search the web for a manual, but the websites I visited is not helpfull.

If someone can direct me to a proper website or if a PDF version of the manual is available will be appreciated

I have taken my suv to the dealer 9 times, they either say the problem is fixed or they cannot duplicate the problem...not everytime but occasionally when you apply the brakes, they will "pop" and you can feel the whole car jerk??? Any idea whats causing this???Its not the pads, they are new

Have the SUV above that is spitting tranny fluid (pink/foamy) what type of fluid & how many quarts. It has been drained & empty right now. husband thinks maybe it was overfilled. He drained b/c it was in water (like 3ft) last week.

every 2 to 5 days i have to fill my rad, there is no leaks, no white smoke out the exaust, no coolant in the oil. it seems like its gone into thin air. I know my cars biggest problem is the chrysler emblem, that says it all, but seriously i'm stumped.

I bought a used Grand Am a couple days ago, I recently noticed that whenever I turned the car on, there would be like a rattling noise under the hood towards the top right that would last maybe two seconds. I took it back to the car lot I bought it from today and he said it was just the compressor from the AC turning on, but it still makes that noise even when I have my AC off. So, does this seem realistic to you?

So I took it to Auto Zone for a free diagnostic test, the error read P0402. There is a problem with the EGR valve. Is there a somewhat simple way to repair this, or is it something I need to take to my mechanic? I am not a hard core wrencher but am able to do minor engine work.

The check engine light comes on after running for 15 to 20 minutes and will not go off unless you shut engine off for more than a couple of hours. There is no noticeable affects of driving it for 30 minutes or so with it on.

this might sound like a dumb question but i never noticed before, well my old alternator went out on my car and so i replaced it with a new one, now that its in, i had the car running for about 5 minutes everything was good, but the alternator seems really hott, normal?

i am workin on a 96 toyota terrcel and the bolt on the bottom of the caliper is stripped and rounded off. I have tried WD-40 and everything else that i know to do so any suggestion would be very helpful and appriciated the bolt is completly rounded off like a circle so pleasehelp me

97 Ford escort 120k Miles. Seems to run pretty good, doesnt burn any oil but leaks a little bit (i check it often and fill when needed) It only seems to flicker when in drive and at an idle.

No, I'm not planning to be like them (heck I can't even drive yet XD) I just find it interesting, the way they turn normal cars to speed machines. Plus they also look pretty cool, how do they do that? What are some of the most popular parts they use?

About a week ago, I started hearing a rattling sound when I turned on my air conditioner. I took it to the shop to get the oil and fluids changed and asked them to look at it. They said my car was fine, but needed it's 70000 mile check up. Three days later, my electrical problems light came on and my ac died. About an hour later the car stopped running in the middle of nowhere. I managed to get back home, but my car is still in the town where I broke down and the mechanic is saying that my harmonic balancer and serpentine belt are missing. What is a harmonic balancer? Is it likely that it would just fall off? How much should it cost to get it replaced? I have no idea if I can trust this mechanic and no way to get a second opinion without paying for a four hour tow to a shop closer to home. Please give me some advice on how to handle this....
