Ford owners manuals usualy list a slightly different oil than the Engine manual from the engine manufacturer. I go with the engine manual when i can but the diference between the two that you have mentioned is very slight and would not make much difference.

Your Ford motor is clearanced for 5W-20. They feel you'll get the best fuel economy with this very light viscosity motor oil. I would say stick to your Ford recommendation. Possibly if you were towing or hauling heavy loads in the heat of the summer it would not hurt anything to use 5W-30.
To play it safe, upgeade with full synthetic 5W-20. Ford could not come back at you and say you weren't using the wrong viscosity oil in case of a warranty issue. If you do your own oil changes they would never know if you happened to slide in 5w-30. Under no circumstances use 10W-30 or 10W-40.

Light viscosity oil pumps to critical engine parts faster at start-up, actually cools internal engine parts faster and more efficiently, creates more horsepower becasuse the oil pump does not have to work as hard to pump the oil.

If you are a race fan Yahoo: Joe Gibbs Racing oil to see what they use to break in fresh motors on engine dynos.. Your eyes will pop wide open when you see the viscocity oil they use for qualifing, restrictor plate racing and when the suffocating plates are not used.

Gawd...... I cringe when they say that the new manufacturers recommendations are for 5W-20. That just seems to be too light of an oil to protect the engine's rotating parts.... especially on a truck. BUT...... until you are out of warranty on the truck... you should use what they recommend. If the engine should blow up, and they find that you used a different weight oil than what they recommend... (and they do check) they may not warranty the engine to be replaced.... and it would come out of your pocket.

Well you should go with what is recommended, but the difference between 20 and 30 weight oil isnt that much, it should be ok.

Well in the summer no. 5w30 is just a little thicker then the weight you have in it Which is fine beacuse as it heats up it thins out. And with the heat from summer and your engine you will be fine. And you can use that same weight in the winter since you are not going too much thicker. But I would say stick to that until your car is over 10 years old. lol. Good luck!

YES use the recomended oil. The engine is built to tight specs to include the oil passage clearances. Changeing the oil viscosity can cause adverse affects to include leaks, fuel economy, and premature engine wear.

Ford seems to think so or they would not insist on using 5W20 oil no matter what the weather. Since they built your vehicle they know what it needs better than anyone here. I would stick with their recommendation.

Hello,

It really depends on the exact F350 you have. There are many factors to consider...

Year
4x4
4.1 L,
5.0L,
V8
V8 Turbo Diesel....

Your best bet would be to call your local Ford dealer and they should give you the best recommendation.

Good for you for researching and taking proper care of your truck!
