No owners manual. All of the fluids were changed this is the only one he's having issues with.

On a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, you will need to put the new Chrysler +4 transmission fluid in when you fill it.

With the transmission completely empty (but very likely there is still a few quarts still in the torque converter that you won't be able to get out by draining.) the transmission will hold around 10-14 quarts depending on the which transmission it is (they make 2 different ones for that model.).

In all likely hood you will only need to put 4-6 quarts in. I would start with 4 and start checking the fluid while it's running. Then add a single quart there after until full.

Your husband did the smart thing and drained the fluid, b/c water will absolutely destroy the an automatic transmission. After you get it running I would also recommend you take it and have a transmission flush done, to ensure all water is out of transmission.

If your husband uses in water a good bit, you may also want to look into extending your vent tube from your transmission. This will help prevent water from getting in the transmission.

If this happens again and by chance he hasn't been in the water with it, I'd recommend having the radiator checked for internal leaks.

Hope this help!

pink and foamy tells me it was mixing with water. if it was in that deep of water you need to change all your fluids, rear ends, trans, and engine oil. I would change them all and then run it again, not drive it, just run it until the engine reaches full operating temperature and then check the fluids in the trans and engine, if they appear off color i.e. pink for the trans or ( coffee and creamer color for the oil ) change them again. then after this is ok drive it and check trans operation and then check the rear end fluid and make sure it isnt off color....good luck and sorry about the flooded vehicle

It should say right on the tranny dipstick what kind to use. Also the owner's manual will say and also how much.
