Maintenance & Repairs - August 2007

Hi My 2001 Camry stopped picking up speed from a standstill, and also blows out (BLUE) smoke when initialy started. A NIGHTMARE TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC (NOt enough acceleration)

I GOT A TUNEUP (replaced air filter engine plugs.. etc) AND HAD THE TIME BELT CHANGED, BUT NO DIFFERENCE

Many people have told me that it MIGHT be due to possible sludge in the engine!!! But when i say i put oil at regular intervals they get confused...

NOW MY QUESTIONs::::

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS IF YOU HAVE ENGINE SLUDGE, AND DOES IT CAUSE VERY SLOW ACCELERATION???
HOW DOES ONE EITER REMOVE OR CLEAN ENGINE SLUDGE??? (ANY GOOD PRODUCTS!!!)

or -- WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE, if its not sludge???

I need an inspection done on my car before the end of August. My check engine light is on, so I went to Auto Zone and they say it is the oxygen sensor that makes that light stay on. In order to pass my inspection, I have to get a new oxygen sensor placed in my car. If I don't I'll have to pay for the first inspection, fail it, get whatever it is fixed, and then pay for another inspection. I'd rather skip all that and just get it fixed before it is inspected. I drive a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GE. Are oxygen sensors easy to put in? In other words, is this something I could do by myself (the part costs $70 at autozone) or am I better off just getting somebody else to do it and pay them? I'm trying to save money here, I am working my way through college. I just want the smartest choice.

I bought a car about an year and half ago, ever since it keeps breaking down every 3 months something! well now its worse! my gasket blew and i needed to re-surface the cylinder head well i looked and finally found a mechanic, well he fixed it for 980.00, about 3 or 4 days later i noticed oil coming out and white smoke from the back of my car. I told them they said they forgot to seal something in the engine. So they fixed that, well now there saying its the piston rings there stuck to the pistons! and i need to pay another 2,000.00. I cant afford it! and the warranty doesnt cover it. what do i do ! I felt they ripped me off! basically i payed one thousand for nothing just to drive it a week n half!

When full it will only show half a tank and isnt pulling the fuel up from the rear tank to the front.Fuel pump and relay have been replaced.ANyone have any clue what the problem is?

There was a really bad rainstorm yesterday and I forgot that I had left my window down. My seat is still totally drenched. I tried to soak it up with towels, blow it with a leaf blower and use a wet/dry vac all to no avail. I was hoping it would evaporate but so far no luck. I'm sure it eventually will but I am sick of driving around sitting on a trash bag so my clothes don't get wet. I have to drive a lot so this is quite annoying. Anyone have any ideas?
And before anyone says anything about it, I am not leaving my window down ever again!!

This could explain the grinding/vibrating noise I hear when I accelearte. I've had this problem since this morning when I went to work. Mechanic also says my muffler belt broke too.

What are bushings? I'm pretty car savvy for a girl, but I've never heard of these before.

it seems like there is very little room between the front of the engine and the firewall... should i try to access it from the top or from the side... there is no diagram so I will draw it... And how many bolts need to be removed and what size?

Hey... I've known how to drive stick for awhile but have some questions before i go get my car... 1. When on the freeway how manys RPMs should be be running for each gear(iam thinking 5 but...) 2. turning- i know it sounds gay but when u turn do you let go of the brake then turn while letting out on the cluch?..thanks alot it means alot to me

I have a high milage car with a transmission that is slipping in between gears a little. Performance wise- Can someone please tell me the end difference between a power flush without a new screen/filter and a regular transmission oil change where they do put in a new screen? They both cost about the same ($130) So which one would be better for a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 170,000 miles and a 5.2 liter V-8. Thanks.

I was driving my 93 ford taurus just the other day when I had to stop to pick someone up, the car started fine when I went to pick this person up but in the 3 minutes it was off I couldn't get it to start again.

I added some coolant as it was very close to empty, and tried to jump start it, even with the jump start the car wouldn't even make a noise, absolutely nothing, no clicking no reving of the engine nothing.

At first I thought the battery must be very dead, but the car lights and radio work when I turn the ignition so it can't be that can it? Also I bought the car about 6 months ago and I have no idea how old the battery is, it looks empty on water.

Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem? I'm thinking it's the starter but I don't know how it could blow with no warning or anything.

I have a nissan sentra ser specv 2003 about 90k miles on it.
I just recently notice that when I go over bumps in the road etc.. I hear this rattle nose coming from the left side of my car. Doesnt side like its coming from the engine. Then this other noise started to happen couple days after. It only makes the noise when im going at slow speed 30 miles n hour n below. It also comes from the left side fo the vechicle. It makes a werid squeaky noise like a old wheel barral. I can put it in nuetral and just roll and it still will make the noise. Its worse if im going over bumps or if im jerky my car around.. It sounds like to me its not coming from the engine like maybe somthing Underneth But Im not 100%. I know I should get it check but I was thinking maybe someone here can help me and I can go look formyself to save me some money. Thank you.

this morning i noticed a rubbing sound coming from my front passenger side wheel as if it was hitting something or a knocking noise.. i think it may be the CV joint.. the axle.. about how much would this cost to have fixed for a 1999 ford cougar? a good estimate or price range would be helpful!

Is there a product that you have used to clean and shine your car interior that you like? It would be good if there was one that I could wipe on the gear shifter, steering wheel, everywhere.
