I bought a car about an year and half ago, ever since it keeps breaking down every 3 months something! well now its worse! my gasket blew and i needed to re-surface the cylinder head well i looked and finally found a mechanic, well he fixed it for 980.00, about 3 or 4 days later i noticed oil coming out and white smoke from the back of my car. I told them they said they forgot to seal something in the engine. So they fixed that, well now there saying its the piston rings there stuck to the pistons! and i need to pay another 2,000.00. I cant afford it! and the warranty doesnt cover it. what do i do ! I felt they ripped me off! basically i payed one thousand for nothing just to drive it a week n half!

That sounds like they did a poor job and messed up the head, I would contact a lawyer and call them, they have to give you a 30 day warranty by law.... they have to fix it..... it is not piston rings. it did not smoke before they touched it did it?? Then it is their fault.

*It could very well be piston rings. If the person before you had not been religious about oil changes gum and varnish forms around piston ring lands and mixed with antifreeze an easily form carbon causing them to stick in the ring grooves. When this happens compression blow-by enters the crankcase. Oil control is poor because the holes behind the bottom set of oil rings could be pluged also.

If you decide to keep the car I'd invest in a re-conditioned motor or a factory fresh short block. The short block from your car dealer will have a factory warranty. You know the cylinder head is flat and I hope they checked the valve guides and did a valve job. It's a nasty situation when you get a used car with no credable service records.

Motors from car re-cycling yards are a hit or miss situation. I'd certainly want to hear it run and do some elementary testing before buying it. Usually they give you a very short warranty period.
