Should the baby car seat face towards to back or front of my car?

Ask your local police. They would rather instruct you in the proper way of seating your infant than write a ticket or call the paramedics. The law is different in different states.

Car seats should never be placed in the front seat, regardless of how many doors the car has.

Babies should be in a rear facing car seat for as long as possible. Most laws only require them to be rear facing to 20lbs and 1 year, but that is a bare minimum. The American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other safety experts say to keep babies rear facing until they reach the maximum weight limit of their convertible car seat rear facing. Pereferably to keep them rear facing until they are at least 2 years old. See the links for more info from trusted sources.
A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone.

Your car seat is supposed to face the back of the car until the kid reaches a certain age/weight then you flip it to face forward.
I could be wrong here (check the seat makers web site or call them) but I think you switch from facing back to facing front at 25lbs. or so...maybe less than that...like 20lbs.

No matter which way you face the seat you want it secured in the BACK seat of the car.

ALWAYS in the back seat facing backwards. Babies can usually face forwards after 1 year. It depends more on weight height and recommendations of the specific car sear. I waited till my twins were 20 months to turn them around because they were so small.

When they are real young, the seat needs to face backwards. When they get older, then you can turn it around.
