this morning i noticed a rubbing sound coming from my front passenger side wheel as if it was hitting something or a knocking noise.. i think it may be the CV joint.. the axle.. about how much would this cost to have fixed for a 1999 ford cougar? a good estimate or price range would be helpful!

Auto parts stores charge around $65.00 exchange for a complete re-manufactured half-shaft. You get both CV-joints and an axle for one side. Add two hrs for installation. Total cost $150. - $175.00.

the rubbing sound is in no way your CV joint.check to see the tire clearance around the wheel well or look under the car if one of the engine and transmission covers has come loose .you might have to take it to a shop so they can put it on a lift and have a better look at it don't let any one fool you that it is the CV joint
