i installed a new fuel filter spark plug wires, distibuter cap and plugs about 3 months ago

what i would do is plump a fuel pressure gauge into the system ... and have a spark tester at the ready the next time it shuts off

Check fuel filter again, also a bad fuel cap can cause that. next time open your fuel cap and see if you get a sucking sound when opening. A bad fuel pump and tank suction tube filter sock are possible too.

more like the fuel pump is done. or the fuel pump relay is going bad.
