My car has a bunch of break dust built up on the rims and I can't get it off with conventional soap and water. It's only a problem visually, but I would like the rims to be clean. They are aluminum alloy. I don't want to use a chemical that will damage the rim. Just wondering if anyone had success with a specific cleaning agent any help is appreciated.

I have a 200 BMW 323Ci (coupe). The brake sensor light indicator came on which means I need new pads at least.

BMW dealership always replaces pads AND rotors and quoted $1045(+tax) for my car.

I'm wondering if there is an auto repair shop (i.e. a national chain) that will do brakes on BMWs and doesn't charge such an outrageous amount?

I don't have the tools to do it myself.

Places like Meineke, Goodyear & Monro say they'll do the work but I have to bring it in and have them look at it in person before they'll give me even a ballpark price.

One local business quoted $800...is that reasonable?

Thanks!

My husband sometimes drives my 2006 VW Jetta. It's a manual 5 speed on the floor. When he drives it, he'll start by shifting into 1st, go to 2nd, 3rd, and then shift right into 5th skipping 4th altogether. Is this good for my car? He says it doesn't hurt anything, that it's actually good for gas mileage. I take extra care with my car and I say it can't be good for it. I want him to stop doing it. Someone help. Is this good or bad for my car?

A friend of mine seems to be having a lot of maintenance on his car, I'd like to know if anyone thinks this is excessive, over 6 years he spent $4800 in maintenance taking the car to the
dealer. Is this excessive or normal?

I am purposely not stating the type of car, as I want a general answer. What are your first-hand experiences or what do you think in general?

What is a typical price for replacement of both front brake pads and rotors on a 1997 Nissan Altima GXE? Monroe Muffler and Brake is trying to charge me $449, then they offered me a coupon which brought it to $375. And I said no, because I could get the parts for much cheaper, so now they are saying $250. What is really a good, and fair price for this job (including labor).

are unstable and the walls could split open at any time, and it was dangerous to drive. The treads look good. I just drove it 250 miles on a trip. Is this a sales pitch to buy more of these $200 tires or could this really be? The car does ride somewhat rough and hard.

back to me, the door looked like new but, I realized the next day while standing about 30 feet apart from the car that the door color is darker than the rest of the car. This can not be like that, is not it? I mean, this guy is a professional painter and I believed it was normal at first, but I asked another car painter friend and he said this guy screwed because the car is supposed to look all the same color. Any suggestions?
