1996 Nissan Altima.A fix that would need periodic redos is okay but I'd like something I can do myself.

Do exactly as xangry suggested. Pull the entire headlight bucket out and drill a couple of holes at the lowest point of the reflector or front plastic lens, which ever is lowest.
It's an easy permanant non-evasive modification that works.

If the lenses are plastic, you might be able to drill a small (VERY small) hole in the bottom to allow the water and condensation to escape. I did that on the 97 ranger and never had another problem

country boy has the fix but... drill the hole on the inside where the road salt & driving rain will not intrude

try using a hairdryer....it might work.
