Hi My 2001 Camry stopped picking up speed from a standstill, and also blows out (BLUE) smoke when initialy started. A NIGHTMARE TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC (NOt enough acceleration)

I GOT A TUNEUP (replaced air filter engine plugs.. etc) AND HAD THE TIME BELT CHANGED, BUT NO DIFFERENCE

Many people have told me that it MIGHT be due to possible sludge in the engine!!! But when i say i put oil at regular intervals they get confused...

NOW MY QUESTIONs::::

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS IF YOU HAVE ENGINE SLUDGE, AND DOES IT CAUSE VERY SLOW ACCELERATION???
HOW DOES ONE EITER REMOVE OR CLEAN ENGINE SLUDGE??? (ANY GOOD PRODUCTS!!!)

or -- WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE, if its not sludge???

THANKS 4 YOUR REPLIES AND HAVE A GREAT WEEK !!!

Didn't you already asked this question a few days ago? Alot of us said it could be your head gasket or bad piston rings.

Very simple: Pull the valve cover and take a look. It should look like a hospital operating room. No visable build up of brown / black slidge or varnish - anywhere. If the valve cover is loaded with crud and junk at a mimimum uncover the oil return holes to the bottom of the motor. Scrape off everything in sight til you get it as clean as possible. Install a new thermostat and radiator cap. For some strange reason Toyota uses 180 degree thermostats which to me is too cold. Put a new gasket on the valve cover get 3 quarts of 5W-30 Havoline Deposit shield oil and one quart of Rislone. Rislone is a very high detergent motor oil suppliment to help clean the crap out of piston rings and piston grooves, lifters crankcase and the top valve train. At the next oil change add a quart of CRC Engine flush and let the motor idle for 30 minutes. Do not drive the car while the engine flush in in the crankcase. Change the oil at 2,000 hard highway miles.
Repeat this process every 2,000 miles for the next 10.000 miles. You may get lucky and be able to clean up the inside.

Your lack of power leads me to believe you have piston rings stuck in the ring grooves. As a test: Remove the oil fill hole with the motor running If smoke somes blasting out you have poor ring seal.

Please give this a try. It should revidalize a sick motor. If not a factory short block is in order. Above all do not put anything but 5W-30 in the motor and from now on change the oil yourself more relgiously

Smoke from the tailpipe??? Oil can fouling the plugs--you could have a blown head gasket--a clogged gasoline filter--but my idea is the valve train or engine rings are allowing oil to get to the combustion chamber---blue smoke is burning oil. Sludge is like mud but will not cause smoke.or sluggish performance

Not sludge although a oil change with flushing oil is a good idea, more likely not getting full throttle, caroet inder pedal of stretched cable or something blocking or restricting the intake.

seafoam works wonders on cleaning out an engine, your local auto parts store should have it. Also check and make sure your cataletic converter is not clogged
