my car pulls to the left and tires are worn although new

I agree with Eric. That's the sort of thing you rarely have to touch. This is much more likely from being out of alignment. If you've driven it like that for a while, the tires are worn unevenly and it will still drive funny after alignment due to wear on the tires. Rotating them might help this.

i agree with eric, you only replace the rack and pinion when it fails, but by the sounds of it you just need to have an alignment on your vehicle..... camber and or toe out of adjustment will definitely cause both a pull and premature wear

sounds like you just need an alignment

when the rack goes bad several things can happen, you're leaking fluid out past the seals. there's oil collected in the dust boots.
when you turn the wheel the wheel turns very freely, or very hard.
when you turn, you hear a grinding sound.
BUT, you have to eliminate the power steering pump as well.
