Take the truck to a mechanic and have him show you how to clean the sensors. It is possible the problem is somewhere else, but you can get trained by a pro.

I think the ABS systems on all cars are such that if the ABS quits working the regular braking system continues to work.
An obvious safety feature.

My ABS on 95 F-150 stopped some time ago. And good riddance. There were plenty of times those things went on unnecessarily when I know I could have stopped sooner and under better control without them.

But the more I think about it, the last part of your question almost sounded like near total brake failure. could it be that only your rear brakes are working? That should be checked out.

I know man!! Here is what you do, look under your truck by the rear tire. Look real close and you will see a censor, you need to clean that sensor, brake dust and metal shavings get attached to it and it will clog it. Just clean it real good, light is off. I have a 2000 F-150 4x4. I know exactly what you are talking about.

Wheel speed sensor about 20 to 30 bucks. takes 5 minutes with a socket to change out. it is a common problem with the fords . Drove me nuts for two weeks before i took it in and had the mechanic show me the sensor. I changed it my self. Should be center of the rear differential right on top with one screw holding it in.

What speed you trying at . ABS don't work less than about 40 mph. Best thing for abs is forget it. They are not dependable.

that is something you would have to use a scanner to find, autozone might be able to get the code.
there are several components that are involved, but it will probably be a wheel speed sensor which is a cinch to change

It happened to mine, the dealer had to clean the sensors. It didn't cost a huge amount (if I remember correctly).
