I'm trying to sell my '95 civic that has 364k miles. Selling a high mileage car is not easy so I was wondering how to turn back the odometer. i'm obviously not turning it back to 0 miles, I just want to turn it back to the miles it states on the pink slip and say i had it garaged for a while. do you know how I can do this? Any help would be appreciated.

~Thanks~

well a car shood average around 15,000 miles a year depending if you don't drive alot or if you do then is more but dude come first of all you cant expect to put it back to lets say 100,000 wich is what the pink slip says and say that you had it garaged i mean what kind of an idiot buys a car and garages it if it was a classic ok or a collectors ok maybe even an exotic but a civic ... come on dude be sides its a 95 its pretty old i mean not that old but some what if the car looks good and has been well maintain then you'll be able to sell it but if its a crappy then .... civics and accords are always on sale old and new and people are always buying them yes it may take a while but im sure youll be able to sell it . maybe your trying to sell it for alot more than what it's worth but heres something that i shood tell you if easyest way take out the dash on the back of the odometer theres a lil pin that you push to the side slightly and turn the numbers a bit but heres the thing you have to put it some where near the miles that you last smog it or your screwed

Instead of cheating someone check out www.kbb.com to find the value of your vehicle if sold privately... I did!

A private party value is one that is sold "as is" and carries no warranty

'95 civic 2 dr hatchback with the milage you mentioned can net you
$1650 -$ 2000.
A 2dr coupe $ 1700 - 2300
This is a vehicle that is in Fair to Good condition

To answer your question.. turning back an odometer is illegal and noticable.. You can get one from a junk yard with less milage. That would be the best way to go if you are hell bent on sticking to your plan.

You do realize that this is a felony? You could go to jail. What real difference does it make amyway? If you have 264K or 364K? A 12 or 13 year old car isn't going to be worth that much that you have to defraud people. Just let it be and sell it for you can.

If you're honest, then you are never wrong. good luck.

First what you are suggestion is against the law. If you do turn it back a smart driver will detect that. The speedodmeter will be bounchin all over the place. I can spot that the minute I drive the car.

Ask the attorney general's office.

In many states, this a felony and you are an idiot.
