If I were a mechanic, I want you to buy the disco - to help finance my kids education. Not that Jeeps are great either, but cheaper to maintain than a Land Rover.

Buy a Toyota instead.

Well that depends on what exactly " maintain" means to you. Are you going offroading? are you talking about motor? If its either or.. Jeep is more easy on the wallet. Also know that Land Rover is built by Ford motors. I don't like Ford and I think that their vehicles are not dependable (just my opinion) Land Rover is consider the Lux SUV of Off Roading, so the parts and maintnance wil cost more. Also the Jeep now comes with a powertrain lifetime warranty. The Landrover does not. Hope this helps.

im not too familiar with cherokees or discoverys but i do know that i have a land rover 04 freelander the step below discovery and its pretty much a melon latley ive had to take it in every other month and sometimes more the car has maybe 100k miles on it and it has been more trouble by far than my 99 4 runner with 170k miles the o2 sensors needed replace after like 30k miles then the wheel berings on the right gave out but instead of fixing them they suggested getting new tires 600$ later it sounds the same so then the fixed it and now the left berings going out with not even 100k miles also the srs airbag light came on after a few weeks wait for them to order the part (they have never had the part for the car in shop always had to order)they fixed it and 1 week later it is on again. maybe mine is just a bad 1 or its landrover. other than that landrovers are very nice and but rugged looking great for off roading.

Land Rover parts and labor are sky high and sometimes have to wait to get---just quoted plugs and wires on a 99 Discovery-----500.00 for a Lando dealer to do...ouch!! Go with the Jeep or any other ---smart thing to do when car shopping is to get pricing on basic maintenance items like tuneup, brakes, oil change, headlights, etc. before buying to see how much out of pocket costs you'll have in the near future. I use to tell all my customers that...salespeople don't offer that info as they should.

And don't buy any car if the last two pages of the owner's manual are the local bus routes!! Yuk-yuk

Jeep Cherokee, a lot more of them on the road, means better parts availability, which means lower costs.
