You must have a hole somewhere in the floorboard of your car where it's coming in and out from. First find that and repair it. Then if the mouse is still there, get poison or a sticky trap. Make sure you check your car frequently so that if it's caught and it dies it won't stink up your car.

Mice love the small spaces that engine compartments and dashboards provide for them to live.
The way to get rid of them is to follow this procedure:
-visually inspect and clean out any visible nests
-clean the engine compartment (use a professional)
-place mothballs in the engine compartment & inside the car
-don't park the car where you usually do for a few days (mice usually return to their nest and will find a new place to live if their old nest is no longer there)
If you have any mice after this procedure, I will personally send my cat on a seek and destroy mission.
Good luck.

(I am assuming that the car is legally registered.) He pays good money to the authorities to be able to take his car onto public streets. Its a public street. He has every right to be there. He has not done anything illegal. (assuming there is no parking restrictions and all that sort of stuff) You say leeching off your family. If he is getting assistance from your family members, say for example they may bring him some water and maybe some food and who knows may have even let him use the toilet, if that bothers you, you need to take that up with them. You objecting to them helping someone is nothing to do with him. They are the people who choose to do this. BTW. Thousands of people including many families are homeless and now living in cars. He may also be a homeless person. Providing the car is legally permitted on the road these people can park their vehicles where ever cars are allowed to park. Reading between the lines I feel you have a personal issue with this guy. Build a bridge. Get over it.

If it is inside the cab of the car DONT poison it. It will dye in the dash and you'll have a nasty smell for years. Use a mouse trap on the passenger floor board. If it is under the hood, use a garden hose and drown the little menice. wash out the nest also. But, be carefull not to get anything electrical wet....

go to your local pest and rodent control and get a wire mouse box.place peanut butter and sharp cheddar cheese inside the wire trap.open the car door and go in the house for a few hour's so there's no sound or movement. they will go into the wire box and then they r trapped.then spray everything down with a deoderizing spray and cleaner then rinse off. you should be ok then.

If your like me and don't want a dead mouse to pick up then don't use the best remedy "a mouse trap."
I would recommend moth balls, rodents hate the smell. You may to but you will get rid of the mouse.

Lots of good answers but please DO NOT PUT MOTHBALLS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. They contain naphtha and that is a highly flammable chemical.
