my husband and i have a 88 ford ltd crown victoria and we just had it serviced and they replaced the modular to the distributor in the ignition and the battery also had to be replaced when i picked the car up he said there was nothing else wrong with it, now every time i make a hard turn the car quits and sometimes it takes me three trys to get it to start. is this normal for the age of this car or could it be our starter is going out? also when we try to start sometimes it makes a grinding noise? any help would be greatly appreciated... thank u and god bless

I took my car in after after having starting issues. Was told I needed to replace the starter. Got a starter has it switched. Still same starting problem. My battery was hooked up to a charger, but it wouldn't seem to charge. While it was hooked up, car was started, and cahrger was removed... still was running. I can get my car to start if I give it a little gas... usually takes 2-3 tries. It always turns over when trying. Would this mean my battery needs to be replaced, or is this an alternator problem?

I have a unique situation I think. I have a 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme. When I drive it after a few minutes, the Thermostat shows HOT. After a few more minutes, it bounces back to medium. At that moment, in cold weather, I would get a blast of heat. Up to that point, my heater wasn't working. Then the cycle repeats, all the way to HOT, a blast of heat from the heater, then back to normal again. Over the past few weeks, I've added coolant 50/50 mix almost daily. I can spot no leaks anywhere. My buddy is a gearhead and he cannot figure it out either. The thermostat has been replaced and both fans on the radiator work.. Any ideas??

I installed a new ECM on my 94 Celica yesterday and the car ran great all day (until I turned my A/C on). When I turned my A/C on, the car died and fried the ECM. What would cause this?

I was told by the garage (not someone I normally go to, so not sure how trustworthy) that my '96 toyota RAV4 (almost 150K mi) needs the left front wheel bearing replaced to pass inspection. they estimated $65 for the part, which is about what I found online. But, they told me it is a labor-intensive job to fix, and would take about 2.5 hours. They said that this particular kind of wheel bearing is "closed" so it's not something that can just be repacked w/ grease, and that it is a tight fit and requires some sort of hydraulic something-or-other to fit it on tightly and accurately - not an easy -to-fix wheel bearing like other vehicles. True? Not true? Please help quick! I need to tell them whether or not to do the work this morning, and I'm trying to get other estimates. Thank you!!

I have a 98 Contour SE and I think it has the factory alarm but I am not exactly sure as I am not the first owner of this car. It makes me use the keyless entry to disarm the alarm. Everytime I stick my key in the drivers door, it will unlock the door, but the alarm will immediately go off once I open the door. How can I stop it from doing this? I thought there was some trick that if you turned the key certain ways it would disarm the alarm but I am not sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

I am replacing rod bearings in my car and I am wondering if it's safe to polish the connecting rods to get rid of the old bearing residue on them using a fine emergy cloth. Is there a risk of making them smaller?

Car = 1989 Camry 3S-F

Cheers

hi, I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire. it's mileage is 167,522 miles. It only had one owner, who maintained the car VERY well. and it is estimated to have 3 to 4 years left in it. I have a 2.4 Liter Twin Cam engine. a buddy of mine at work who knows stuff about cars said replacing it would be like $3000. now thats for all of the necesarry components too, like the water pump and stuff. i dont know if hes right or not. i know NOTHING about cars, and ive been asking here often. now the engine i have is more than 10 years old obviously so i dont know if manufacturers still make that kind of engine... like i said i know nothing... i just want an engine that is either exactly the one i have, or something very similar. im not one of those crazy teenagers dying to be the fastest... i just want a car that runs. this has to last me a long time. thank you for reading everyone and please explain your answers the best you can.

Would it even be worth buying? My neighbor is trying to get rid of it and I need a car to get to and from college. It's a 93 Nissan, don't know the model off hand. He wants $800 from it and everything seems to be working fine with it, except I'd have to get it inspected since it expired.

How much more miles could it take on?

Okay my friend took his car to an auto shop to have it checked out. He only wanted to know what the problem was. He made this very clear when he took the car in. So instead of telling him what's the problem, they went ahead and fixed the car. They left a voicemail saying they fixed it and he owes $350. He doesn't think he should have to pay for it because he was just trying to find out the problem. He's going to talk to them tomorrow. What do you think?

I own a 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4x4 with 4.3L Vortec, auto trans. My once faithful truck first started running rough, then stall, wouldn't start for an hour. Changed fuel filter-it drove 15 miles fine, then run rough, then stall.Hour later it starts, runs about 4 miles to home and dies. I put on many parts recently including dist cap/rotor, plugs/wires, fuel filter, air filter, checked all vac hoses and computer codes. I am getting full voltage to starter, full power to all plugs, and just did a fuel pressure test which checked out 100%- so I know my fuel pump is working, my ignition is working too. The fuel pressure regulator is underneath the intake manifold and have no way of testing it.Could this cause it to not run? Also, a manual said that if the low oil pressure switch is defective it won't start-is this true?Why isn't the computer giving up an error code?The computer checks out also-WHAT COULD IT BE!??
