I installed a new ECM on my 94 Celica yesterday and the car ran great all day (until I turned my A/C on). When I turned my A/C on, the car died and fried the ECM. What would cause this?

If there is a short, where should I check if the car runs fine without A/C? Is there an A/C relay or particular ground wire to check? There are only a few wires coming from the compressor.

If you haven't done any rewiring for a custom stereo or remote starter, etc, then the problem is with the a/c clutch. The clutch is what engages the a/c pump, and is controlled by a simple solenoid. It sounds like the 'sense' line that feeds back to the ECM has battery voltage on it. This line is used to tell the ECM that the a/c is either engaged or not. You'll need to get a wiring manual the details the a/c clutch. Also, make sure the connector to the a/c clutch isn't plugged in backwards.
