All I need to do is repaint the back trunk door. Its aged from the sun and has white spots and chipping the paint. Can I repaint it myself or does it have to be professionally?

OK to repair the problem you have the paint must be removed the white spots you see is the clear coat coming off. the other problem you will face is the color will not match without blending into the quarters, But if you choose to do it yourself get yourself a small pack of 320 close cut paper (wet sanding paper) sand the area down with water until you no longer see or feel the edges or white areas, from there you can lay out the paint. You have two types to choose from Single stage of base clear, each have there own up and downs, for a first timer, go with the single stage, Your local paint store such as Finshmaster will be able to assist you. Good luck.

you can repaint the car yourself if you like. since the areas are small, relatively, you can get a few cans of duplicolor in spray cans, and repaint the areas needed. if the paint is in good overall condition other than the white spots and chipped paint, sand the top coat down with 600 grit paper, and be sure to feather the edges of the paint chips. then lay down the duplicolor paint in thin coats.

For the best appearance it should be done in a paint shop. The weather is controlled and they have the better facilities to do the work. Like clean rooms to keep dust and lint out while the paint dries.

You can do it yourself, but I feel you will not be happy with the results. Since you asked the question, I take it that you haven't done this before.

good luck.
