I thought my transmission was going out until today when I drive my car more than half pedal and the rpm's jump from 2k to 4k like the transmission is slipping and when driving u have to let off the gas for it to shift at times it gets worse the longer its driven smd today I removed the fuel filter to test it by blowing through it welll when I put it back on nothing I removed it to make sure gas was going through it and thats when I discovered the fuel pump was not working even though I had just drove the car an hour before with lots of trouble I couldn't barely make it over 40mph and the transmission seemed to slip could the fuel pump have made the car not let the rpms go up enough for it to shift right? 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 4cyl aurtomatic any ideas would be great thanks.

I have changed the fluid and filter in the transmission and yes I blew throught the fuel filter to check to see if it was clogged and I removed the fuel filter completely to see if if fuel was making it to the fuel filter and it donot even come on, u can hear the pump kick on when u turn the key on, and when u press on the gas its like it isn't in gear at all so if I give it less pedal it is back in gear.

Why don't you make life simpler/ buy a new fuel filter and put it on completely and see if the car changes.(at least you have taken out the FF as a problem). It is also the cheapest route to go.
Testing a FF by blowing thru it? did you actually blow thru it Yes/No? And how?
>is it yes you blew thru it and no you couldn't blow thru it<> but you put it back on and blame the fuel pump?< or the transmission?.
If the filter is blocked - it doesn't go back on -
you replace it and rehook up the system. And recrank the motor to get fuel to be pumped up into the FF and then into the engine.
What does the car run like with the new FF.?
Now what is the problem, if any?
Saying "that the transmission seemed to slip"......do you know what a slipping transmission feels like?
Did you check the fluid level while the engine is idling and the car in neutral? Too much fluid is just as bad as not enough fluid. Also use the right type according to your owners manual.
Do things step by step, you may have had more than one problem to begin with.

The rpm going from 2-4 k would and the car slipping would definately not be fuel pump or filter related.

a clogged fuel filter would cause a lack of power but the rpm would stay low also.

sounds like you need a transmmision first then check the fuel system.

Blew thru the fuel filter?? The filter is hidden in the tank--you probably removed something and caused a vacuum or a vapor lock--that is all bad--so get to a dealer and stop playing around. You have aproblem--every car gets problems--spend the money and get it fixed right. Sorry--cars were not designed to have drivers tinkering around anymore.

i bad fuel filter or pump would make the car stumble but it shouldn't make the car free rev or not shift.

you could try checking the trans fluid and condition just to narrow your possibility's

Year, make and model would have helped...
I would check the axle shafts. The left one is probably broken or about to break.
Good luck!
