It might be a little late for this answer but I had the same question in the past. Before you take your car in mark a small red dot on everything that will be changed, make sure the dot is not at eye view. You can also request for your old parts before they start the work on your car. At this point it will be hard to tell because if they had planned to pull a fast one on you they already made sure they covered all there tracks so that you would not notice. On the other hand if your car feels like it has a little more power it probably does and that is because you might have really had a tune up.

I swear some mechanics make me feel angry.

If you don't trust your mechanic you should tell him to save all your old parts. Just say you are going for a Bachelors of Fine Arts and that you need junk for your abstract artwork.

Just the fact that you feel better pick up should tell you that he did his job. That's one of the purposes of getting a tune up.

he most likely did do the work.I find mechanics cheat on the cost of parts but I have never paid for work that was not done.

It's not too hard to check to see if the items he says he replaced look new.

I would think that he did. I wonder why you think that he didn't do the work? You did notice an improvement in performance so the indication is that he did.
