I've acquired a old MG which I want to restore. There is quite a bit of surface rust on the vechicle which I want to remove, treat the metal with POL-15, and respray.

I'll be doing this in sections over several winter months. Can anyone recommend a good air compressor, spray gun & sand blaster accessories - for DIY not silly money!!!

Many thanks

First, congratulations & commiserations! You have got yourself a lot of hard work, but stick at it and the results are worth it. You have a few options. Machinery Mart offer good stuff at reasonable prices, check the website. You could join a local car club which has a "tool pool" which offers loan of equipment at nominal charges. You can look around car boot sales and auctions for 2nd hand gear.Lastly, You could do what a crafty mate of mine did and that is order top of the range gear from a catalogue, wrap everything very carefully in plastic, use it, clean it up and then send it back as not suitable! (I personaly do not reccomend this route, but think about it). The other thing I would strongly reccomend is to join the MG owners club. It offers loads of advice, knowledgeable members and support when You need it. Believe me, with a rusty MG, You are going to need support. Best of luck.

Have you considered using a acid dip? That would remove all the rust and would be down to bare metal.

With regards to to the air compressor get one that will meet the requirements of the sand blaster. I'm sure if you get a 5 hp motor and twin cylinder compressor it will do the job. A large storage tank will help with the volume requirements, use a regulator to control the pressure.

Good luck with the restoration.
