I have a 1991 Geo Storm With a 5 speed transmission. The book tells me to put GM No.12345348 or equivalent in for the fluid. On the Spectrum ti says to use 5w-30 oil. Is that the same or do I need special fluid?

Call the dealer and double check. If it recommends the 5w-30 in the manual, you should be ok but check first.

5w-30 is an engine oil, most manual transmissions, and the rear ends use gear oil which is 90 weight

Transmission fluid is one thing and 5W-30 is for your engine. Any place that sells trans fluid will either have abook or the can will say for GM cars.

Call the dealer, service dept. I believe all manual transmissions take gear oil, 90 weight.
