I have a 1998 Mustang. The A/C has been charged and was working fine. All of a sudden the air began to blow warm. I noticed that the compressor wasn't turning on. Before I buy a new one, is there anything I should look into first? The compressor did turn on for a few seconds, at which time the air blew cold, but then it shut off again and stayed that way....

The clutch isn't kicking in, could be a fuse, the switch, or the clutch just went out. Usualy rou replace the whole compressor, not just the clutch.

The low pressure switch is taking the compressor out. You have a leak somewhere in the system. When it is low on freon the system will freeze up if allowed to run. The switch prevents this and saves the compressor.

Take it to a shop and have the leak fixed. Most likely a seal has went bad, hopefully not the one in the compressor. The system will have to be evacuated and refilled. Then you shouldn't have any more problems with it.

Sounds like a relay my friend, usually outside under the hood you'll find it.Check for loose connections to the compressor too.Buy some dye at your local auto parts store to test the a.c. for leaks. Some compressors won't kick on when low on freon. The dye will show leaks to you and is a rather cheap way to test your system yet very thorough.

check the freon sounds like u have a leak cause when a ac system runs low it will turn the compressor off the way u can check it is to find the low pressure cut off swith and get a paper clip and jump side to side and that will let u no if it is a electrical problem could also be low pressure switch also their is a screw inside of low pressure switch that is adjustable

check your fuses first thing.. depending upon your mechanical abilities it could get complicated, I would have the system checked, If you just had it checked or charged one of the vales could have not reseated properly and your freon leaked out.. could be anything from a bad relay to a bad clutch .. but more than likely, it has leaked out.
Good luck

You have a leak, this is called cycling. The compressor is cycling because it is very low on refrigerant. Look at your ac lines, you will see quick couplers on the ends, They are notorious for leaking there..........
