Road trip home, changing drivers & my seatback needs to be brought back up. Well when I lift the level handle to adjust the seatback nothing happens; usually it would automatically raise the seat back up. This is not an automatic one, it is a basic model of an 2002 Ford Focus, can anyone PLEASE help me....I CANNOT drive with the seat back pushed this far back.

Thank you!

Even with the level handle raised up in the "able to adjust position" and pushing on the seat to get it to raise back up, nothing works. THe seat back doesn't move at all, it will not go back anymore & it will not move up at all.

Since this is a manual adjustment, can you look under the seat and determine why it is not working? Maybe there is something under the seat blocking the release lever, causing it do not disengage. good luck

If you can't find the problem take it in and have a dealer look at it. It should be an easy fix.

Look under the seat and make sure there isn't something under it blocking the seat lever. Sometimes a piece of paper or a water bottle or even coins will get down in there and prevent the lever from operating. You say your seat is not automatic -- do you mean it's not electric? If it's electric check your fuses. If it's manual then check to ensure that the lock washer didn't fall off the back of the lever. Get a light, look under the seat, look in your owner's manual to see about seat adjustments and see if there is something else you can look for. also, you might try (after you have check to make sure nothing is blocking the mechanism) having someone push forward on the seat while you hold the lever back. Make sure it locks because a loose seat could be deadly.

Get some WD-40 and lubricate all of the springs and metal arms in the mechanism on the side and underneath the seat.
