4L 6cyl auto transmission 1992 Explorer has always started on first try with no need for accelerator pedal, and ran smooth at about 1000RPM while warming up, around 650 RPM in Park/Neutral/or in gear with brakes on.

Suddenly, it needs gas pedal to stay running without bucking - RPM drops to less than 500, charge guage dips at same time to less than 12 V. Must put it in neutral and give gas at stoplights. Runs fine while moving. This happened immediately after I sprayed Teflon Silicon lubricant in ignition switch, and (more importantly?) left the ignition switch in "On" position without engine running for about 25 minutes. Also new tank of gas 20 miles earlier.

Does something electrical burn up or overheat when you leave it switched on? I have tested it for 5 miles at city speeds but I don't want to get stuck on the Interstate trying to "burn it off" as one friend suggested. Battery seems strong, charge guage returns to 14+ volts when it is running at or above 1000 RPM. THX!

I always thought that you press the button in when you take off but simply pull it up (with the 'noise' ) when you stop. My new car needed an handbrake adjustment at my first service...is this cos I am wrong, the car is weird, or the fact that my DH has reversed out of the drive with it on a couple of times?
Any explanations of how it all works greatly appreciated!

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango V8 and the oil pressure gauge goes up & down depending on my speed or idling. It never goes all the way to the full point but when I checked my oil, it was full. Is there a problem? I had a 2001 Durango & it never did this. Please help.

This is the 2.5L 4-cylinder. It isn't the fuel pump, because we had that replaced in December. Transmission fluid level is fine. Here's what happened:

The van was running absolutely fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. The one day when I was on my way to the store, the engine started to just ...die! The speedometer went from 55 down to 30 in about two seconds, and no matter how hard I pushed the gas, it still stayed around 30. It was if the gas pedal was not giving it any gas! After another second or two, it died all the way down to around 10mph. I took my foot off the gas, then put my foot back on the gas again...and ZOOM...it took off again like nothing had ever happened!

It has done this same thing twice in the past month. Anyone have any ideas?

The problem is once in a blue moon while driving the car will just up and die. The electronics on the car will flash and it will sputter then dead. Then it will start back up and drive fine. This has happened 3 times before I had to park it and go overseas. I had it hooked up to a diagnostics but it had no errors. All this leads me to think it is a loose wire. Ground maybe? Any info I can get to help me fix this problem when I get back would be greatly appreciated.

I just reciently replaced the transmission type number 31th in my 1998 dodge caravan at 125,000 miles. The vehicle is driven on expressway only and has never pulled a trailer as there is no hitch on the vehicle. The question is, should I install a cooler in the return line to the transmission, and would it help. This vehicle is driven only on the expressway, and maybe shifts 4 times a day under normal use. Thanks, Chris

My car seems to make a humming noise when I go 60km or faster and the faster I go the louder it gets? What might this be?The car handles well and there are no rattles etc in the car its a 96 holden Barina Swing. Could it be the axel as it sounds like something in that area as it happens when wheels are going round at a spped of 60kms or more and the sound gets faster and louder the faster the car is driven/

It is not a cracked distributor cap - she gets damp during a wet night and won't start early morning but will start later on a clear day. I am wondering if a car cover would help or if the damp would just come in from underneath? Appreciate any helpful replies!

I get a strong smell of fuel in the cabin. The fuel lines are fine. I was told that it may be an exhaust problem. I have noticed the exhaust tip is very black (unusually so). The fuel consumption has been very poor since this has started to happen. I checked another forum and it mentioned a carbon filter under the drivers front wing but did not eleborate

Can anyone help

I travel alot and my car has a slightly large engine then a 4 cylinder. to use minimum amount of gas/petroleum, I shift my gear to neutral when standing still at a trafic light thinking It would save gas....

I look at the fact that electric motor takes more electricity when given load or perhaps too much load making it stop eventually...

I am not sure about a gasoline engine? does a gasoline engine spend more gas/ petroleum when it is running free or when it has been forced to stop the car from moving??

I am frustrated as heck, because I really want to fix my friends car. I took the starter in and they said it was bad, so I got a used one at a junk yard that I had tested... it was fine. I put that one in, but it still wont turn over. the dash lights come on, but nothing. The electrical line looks a little worn that connects to the solnoid. is there a fuse that goes to that maybe? What are all the possiblities it could be? I'm going to try charging the battery... but give me some suggestions so I havent wasted all this time. She really doesnt have money for a car mechanic.
