This is the 2.5L 4-cylinder. It isn't the fuel pump, because we had that replaced in December. Transmission fluid level is fine. Here's what happened:

The van was running absolutely fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. The one day when I was on my way to the store, the engine started to just ...die! The speedometer went from 55 down to 30 in about two seconds, and no matter how hard I pushed the gas, it still stayed around 30. It was if the gas pedal was not giving it any gas! After another second or two, it died all the way down to around 10mph. I took my foot off the gas, then put my foot back on the gas again...and ZOOM...it took off again like nothing had ever happened!

It has done this same thing twice in the past month. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be a few things... Fuel filter may have something it the stops the gas from flowing. ..or.. Air filter maybe old or clogged, check both. both items are cheap to replace.
Other reason May be spark plug wires, one might be bad. Or maybe...maybe a bad spark plug.. All cheap to fix.

Something is affecting either the fuel flow or the spark to the plugs as either of those affects will cause temporary losses of power.

Figuring out what is causing that requires more of the evidence.

Air filter recently changed? checked - not dirty?
Smoke out of the tail pipe?

other noises?

Is it cold where you live? Hot? excessive? engine temp? Charge indicator still indicating?

New thing recently added? Fixed?

Recent tune up?

Recent oil changes?

Anyone playing around in the engine compartment lately? Hit or moved or side-lined some wiring?

More info = better/Easier diagnosis

did u replace fuel filter too? it sounds like a fuel problem it also could be the the air induction system. the brain of air and fuel system.. standing in front of the car the right front fender got a lot of wires to it. that controls air and fuel. check for codes in it. turn key off and on 4 or 5 times real fast Eng light flashes the codes at you, count the blinking light and look them up...

Could be one of two thing that would cause this problem:1.) it could be that you have what's called a computer brain! it's generaly a white box located back fire wall of the engine compartment! And or it's quite possibly an eletrical problem! If you can afford too do so have a mechanic check it out! If it keeps doing this problem you might have to take it too a dealership & have them run a test on it!? Hopefully it's not your transmission! Full fluid or not! You can still have a problem thier & not know it! Good luck!

Vacuum leak may be the 1st element on my record. Idle the automobile and spray carb air purifier around each and all of the hoses if the RPM boost inspect that section for a bad connection or hose. the subsequent element on the record is a air bypass sensor or the throttle administration sensor. examine them with a ohm meter. i'm uncertain in case you have a idle air pass, in case you do this must be caught open.

sounds like your air intake thingy that valve thing on your air line, try changing your air filter, if not any of them it could be your fuel injectors, or Carburator which ever you have, but it could also be your plugs and wires, its probably not your transmition or anything, buy a repair manual and look at the trouble shooting section. I might not know what everything is called but I do know what couses most of what goes wrong

sounds like a clogged catalytic converter causing back pressure on your engine. or clogged fuel filter. do you have a check engine light on? have a auto parts store do a code check for you. it will tell you the problem plus any stored codes on the computer. if you want to do it yourself i recommend the code scout 2500 it comes with the chrysler obd-1 cable ($200).
