I have a 2002 Dodge Durango V8 and the oil pressure gauge goes up & down depending on my speed or idling. It never goes all the way to the full point but when I checked my oil, it was full. Is there a problem? I had a 2001 Durango & it never did this. Please help.

hi, the oil pressure gauge will follow the revs of the engine, so when you are ideling it should be reading low, and when you are driving it should be at its highest, if it is reading low when you are driving then ur gauge is faulty or your oil pressure is bad, and bad enough to ruin your engine. it could be the gauge or the pump or low in engine oil, better have it checked out soon. good luck brian

MY truck does the same thing, i have yet to have trouble with it, a friend told me it was "measuring the Oil pressure" which is why it moves lower and higher at different times of driving or at a stop.
I too think it is normal, if you feel worried about this, run this question to your trusted mechanic...

i own a repair shop,and you need a new oil sending unit on it,that's whats causing this to happen,,they all do this when the sending unit starts going bad,it will eventually drop to 0 then it gets really scary,but id get it replaced,because you always need to know what the correct oil pressure is on any engine,that should fix it though,good luck with it,i hope this helps.

mine stays at the three quoter mark is that bad
