I need some help, My engine will not turn over, when I turn the key I get some wierd buzzer sound, kind of like the shock pens only louder. It is either coming from the voltage regulator or the starter solenoid. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

Your question takes me back to my teen-age years when I had old Fords. They were notorious for this type of problem.

Assuming it's NOT the battery, it's usually the relay switch located on the fender close to the battery. The relay will have two large connections (for the battery going to and from the relay) and at least one smaller connection. Some of the older models had two connections. On the models with two smaller connections, it's the one closest to the battery that you want to disconnect. It just pulls right off. With an insulated screw driver, CAREFULLY touch the connection to the positive (hot terminal) of the relay. This is the large connection coming directly from the battery.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO, make sure the car is in Park or Neutral. If you don't the car will be in gear and jump.

It sounds like a low battery or bad battery connection. If your battery is fully charged then check to make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. If the battery is fully charged and the terminals are tight check to make sure that the ground strap that goes from the back of the block to the firewall is tight and in good shape, if so, then check the starter relay(solenoid) which should be mounted on the inner fender well. The starter relay should be on the same side of the car as the battery and is generally within 6-12 inches of the battery. Make sure that the connections to the relay are tight, if so, you may need a new starter relay. They are generally cheap(10-12 bucks) and widely available at any auto parts store. Good luck.

Did you just rebuild this thing by any chance? Did you hook up the engine to chassis ground? It's a very large wire that grounds the chassis and engine block together.

Could be the solenoid, and this car has an external type.

Did it just stop turning over? Maybe battery is bad.

1. dirty /defective battery cables.
2. defective battery.

a dead ford starter will do nothing or go "thud"!

one trick with the old ford is jump across the starter "relay/ solenoid" with the handles of a non insulated pliers. it'll probably shock the shirt out of ya!

last, locked engine. not very likely.

Make shure battery is fully charged 12.5 volts and make shure your cables are clean and tight. That's the primary cause of no start condition
