There are several possible problems, but the Thermostat and a coolant flush are the least expensive. It wouldn't be a bad idea to start there, but just keep in mind it may not be the problem. You could also have a bad radiator, or a faulty cooling fan just to name a few.

Overheating is typically caused by any of several things:

1) Thermostat stuck shut or nearly shut restricting water flow through the radiator
2) Radiator is clogged with scale and sediment - flushing with a good radiator cleaner will improve coolant flow
3) Collapsed hoses between engine and radiator
4) Bad pressure cap on the radiator
5) Bad water pump
6) old or diluted coolant - glycol based anti-freeze/coolants needs to be replaced once in a while

Changing the thermostat alone won't solve overheating. Thermostat is merely an indicator that there is a cause of your car overheating.

Flushing out the cooling system helps. Overheating can also be caused by faulty radiator/pump. It overheats because of bad circulation around the engine.

Hope this helps...

actually...the thermostat keeps the fluid running through your engine, when it reaches a certain degree, sorte like a thermometyer.then when the antifreeze cools it enought the thermostat closes and dont re-open to cool the engine until it reaches a certain temp.,I wouldnt see why u would have to change the hose unless it leaking, your problem sounds like a bad thermostat my friend, unless theres a leak i wouldnt change it.

Maybe, if your thermostat is bad. Your mechanic should be able to do a 5 minute pressure test to determine if that's the problem. I think you need a second opinion.

You can test your Thermostat by removing it from the car and placing it in a pan of boiling water on your stove. If it opens quickly and fully, it is functioning. If it is slow to open or not at all, then it should be replaced.

thermostat..? maybe.. but check out this stuff too

1. faulty engine temperature sensor > overheating
2. radiator fan not working > overheating
3. faulty/broken engine water pump > overheating
4. blocked radiator > overheating
5. faulty/broken cyclinder head gasket (hi boost hehe) > overheating
