My car will run but when I give it gas it cuts out at 2000-2300 rpms. It doesn't stall it just dogs out. Fuel filter maybe?

Ignition coil, fuel pump, spark plugs, plug wires. I would say most likely fuel pump.

Could also be timing, as there is a timing advance on the distributor that advances the timing with increased engine speed. Older cars had a vacuum timing advance, the tube for that could be cracked or broken or off and that will as assuredly affect the engines rev abilities

Either fuel filter or fuel pump. Change the filter first as it's cheaper.
