car was driving fine then check engine light came on later on , right then transmission got stuck on 2nd gear it will go on reverse but will not upshift or downsifht on drive , now a friend of mine told me the transmission has gone on safe mode , to prevent damage
how can I tell for sure what is going on has anybody out there experience something similar as this . thank you all.

Your transmission is in failsafe mode to protect itself. because it is in 2nd gear DO NOT EXEED 30 MPH. it will burn the trans, have the vehicle inspected by a trusted shop.
Try undoing the battery for 30 sec to reset the computer
