Hey all,
I am going to change the oil in my car but I don't know what the oil pan looks like. What does it look like? Will I need any special tools? Will the filter just unscrew? Does the oil filter say "oil filter" on it? The local autozone will take the oil but what do I take it there in? I don't want to buy any kind of container. How do I get my car up on the ramp things? Any suggestions or tip on changing your own oil is welcome. Thanks!

Does a car take AA or AAA and how many do batteries do I need? I've got a package of AA here at the house, but if I need AAA I will have to go to the store.

I am about to graduate from auto mechanics, and I am shopping for a 1/2" drive impact wrench. However I am lost. The price is not consistent with torque output (some are expensive with normal torque output, while those on eBay at 1000 ft/lb are asking 200$). Therefore I want to know how to select a good impact wrench? (what weight is considered light?, what torque is better?, what brand, speed, clutch technology, etc.??) I am looking the best quality/price ratio under 250-300$. Many thanks!

He, the gentlemen fixing my car, says usually they are not responsible for damages and replacing the part because the car is so old. He is now charging me for something he broke. How far can this go? Should I sue him?

I recently changed my starter in my 96 silverado. Tonight I drove over some railroad tracks and my car instantly died. I had power in the truck I just couldn't give it gas. I coasted on to the side of the road, got underneath and discover my nut had come off of one of the cables to the starter. I found another nut and tightened it with my fingers. It still won't start. Turns over but dies instantly.. Is it still the nut or could something else have gone wrong?

Can it be fixed without the bumper being removed from the car? Is this a small bodywork job that can be done with the bumper still on the car, or do they have to remove it to fix it? The length of the crack is about 2 inches.

I have a 2000 Cirrus that I replaced the Front Passenger Wheel Bearing in May 2006. It is now needing to be replaced again. What could cause this? I had it for a year before the first bearing needed to be replaced. Should I be looking for something else to be wrong?

white smoke. only got reconditioned gear box put in week before christmas too they sealed a leak from the transmission and then the smoke started.

Additional details
white smoke is very sweet smell if that helps

IMPORTANT:

was also looking through engine and notice a dripping coming from back of the oil thing that holds where a seal maybe broken. Not sure I’m a girl for god sake and it is falling straight on to the catalystic converter while in park motion

I used some today when I went to change my oil. However after following the rest of the directions and after letting it idle for 5 minutes from a cold start I couldnt get the oil plug off. The bolt head was stripped for whatever reason. I had to drive it to the local Jiffy Lube which was like 2 miles away. I avoided using the gas too much and tried to just idle over there but there were short spurts where I needed to use the throttle. Anything wrong with this?

I have a 1992 Camry and it has been a great car all these years. Over the last 7 years, it has leaked a little oil. But, I expected that on a high-mileage car.
Last year, it started to get worse, needing about a quart of oil every fill up. It has never burned any oil--it is definitely leaking. The weird thing is, it stops leaking after about a quart is out of it. Now, one of the cylinders has no compression. It still runs. But, I am just leaving it parked for now. Does anybody have any idea as to what it is?? I don't want to get rid of the car because it would be an awful waste.
Thanks.

At 100K, I had my 100K tuneup including a timing belt change. After serious issues, another mechanic let me know that my previous mechanic inserted a key incorrectly. The key rubbed down and fell out. My car had major problems at 130K miles. It had trouble getting through the first 3 gears. The previous mechanic paid for another mechanic to fix. Now I am curious, what problems should I expect from this error? I ran the car pretty hard for 40K miles. Thank you for your help.
