i own a repair shop, and what you need to do with the engine off,is run it all way down ,do it slowly, and seat it in,don't tighten it real tight ,just until it stops, then back it out 1 1/2 turns, now start it and tune it in from that point,if the float and everything is working right on it,it should tune in real good from that point,if you have a vacuum gage ,hook it up to a unused vacuum port, (intake vacuum only though ),and tune it until you get the smoothest highest vacuum, remember the higher the number is not important, the smoothest amount at an idle is what your looking for, usually a good L 6 engine will run high vacuum,so you,ll probably wind up getting around 17-20 pounds at an idle, but anything that it will steady out at is good,if you get it tuned right ,it should get you around 16-25 miles to the gallon this is just an average, but those are good engines, and there coming back in style also, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Turn clockwise all the way in then back out 1 1/2 turns it should start here then turn in or out until engine runs smoothest you might need to readjust idle speed with screw where linkage hooks on.

Here is the rule of thumb..... tirn the screw in all the way till it seats, then turn out 3 full turns. Start the car if the negine is running rough then unscrew the screw till the engine runs smooth. If the enigine starts smooth then turn the screw in till it starts to run rough, then back it out till the engine is smooth again, now your rich/lean is properly set.

on adjusting carbs you screw it all the way in(clockwise looking at it) then look at the head of the screw where you incert the screwdriver (usualy a flathead)and turn it counter clockwise 1 1/2turns. start the engine and finetune it from there. you can use a vacume gauge to help. good luck!!!

turn your mixture screw all the way in ...just till it bottom,s out.....careful....not too hard.....you,ll damage the needle.........then back it out ....2 turn,s........start your engine......turn it in until you hear it stumble......then start backing it out....counting the turn,s......until it begin,s to faulter......turn it back in half of the turn,s you counted....example = backed out 4 turn,s......turn back in 2 turn,s........that is your primary adjustment.
