Yes, I heard some noises coming from the engine like it was a slight clicking noise.

i own a repair shop, and id see if it damaged anything real bad when it went out,i see a lot of engines with bad pumps, and it almost every time does some damage to it,so if its high mileage and you plan on keeping the car i would consider rebuilding it,because it could, and probably will have damaged some of the main bearings in it and also the upper bearings also,if it was mine ,and i liked the vehicle ,and had no plans on getting rid of it,i guess id just rebuild it,this would save lot of headaches ,in the future with it,if you do most of the work your self,it wont cost you that much to do this, and then you,ll know you have a good car,i hope this helps, good luck with it.

It all depends on the circumstances. If the vehicle was lower milage or really well maintained, you probably won't need to rebuild. I rarely recommend full rebuild unless the oil pump was non-functional and the customer has run the car for pretty much anything more than 30 seconds or driven for more than a hundred yards or so.

How many miles are on the motor?? when the oil pump went bad did you hear any knocking? or loud sounds? if not i would just try and replace the oil pump and chang the oil and oil filter and add a can of motor restore.

If you want to put more horsepower and more torque into your engine then yeah rebuild it, but what do you want to rebuild your engine cause your oil pump went bad? You'll still need to get a new oil pump...

If you are going to end up rebuilding then of course you will be replacing the pump. So why not replace it first and see where you stand?
Sometimes when you are prepared for the worst the next day it is forgotten.

You did not say why you believe your oil pump went bad. Have you removed it and inspected it for wear? You did not disclose what engine or year or any details such as do you have low oil pressure? and how low is that ?

Finally, low oil pressure is not always due to a failed oil pump. More commonly it is due to excessive bearing clearance or a broken drive.

Replace the pump this will be much cheaper than replacing the engine and you will achieve the same results
