My car (Maruti 800) had a difficult time at the ignition. I guess, I had not refilled water in the battery for some time. Someone told me, may be a cell is weak. I took it to have it recharged. The mechanic who recharged it for a day or more, digitally confirmed the charge as okay (he me told battery charge was not very low) and also topped it with acidified water.

I proceeded reconnect the cables to both sides of the battery. There was small wire with a small ring at the tip, which together I fastened on the positive side. Immediately, there were sparks and smoke coming out, and I quickly removed out the cable. The small wire had insulation had burned soft I felt. I tried starting my car with the cables on (without the small wire on the positive side), but there is no sound and no life. Please help.

Assuming you burn an entire full tank of gas. So it would take a while. Would you do damage to the engine? Overheat?

I have already replaced the spark plugs, wires, roter, and cap. This has been happening once in a while when I start the car then it goes away after the engine warms up. Recently it hasn't even gone away with the engine heated. I have 4 error codes :
1. cylinder 1 misfire
2. cylinder 2 misfire
3. multiple random misfire
4. P1399 vehicle specific

I haven't been able to find out what P1399 is. If anyone could give me any ideas with any of this it would be a great help. Thanks

I put my car in the shop to have recall work (unrelated to the engine) and for an oil change. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my car. They told me that I needed a new battery and alternator. 2 years ago, I did the same thing and they told me that I needed a new starter. I refused the service to get a 2nd opinion. My car has started every day since (never replaced the starter) except when it goes back to the dealer. Is it possible to have your alternator and battery go out without ANY warning?? I am beginning to thing that I am getting scammed??????

I have and older ford car with a 4 cylinder engine, I think it would be a good idea to use a synthetic for extra protection. Especially since I have a small oil leak. Any advice?

Someone told me that if you're running into a convenient store really quick (or a house, etc.) that you use more gas turning your car off than if you just left it running. Is this true?

my car is "jumping", it's not working as it should be. I took it to two different mechanics, one changed the spark plugs, but the problem was still there. The second mechanic told me that he could not find a problem, but it could be the flow meter. Any ideas?

My car is overheating. I put in a new thermostat, test drove it - it overheated and the coolant backed up big time into the overflow tank. A guy said to pull the new thermostat, drop it in a pot of boiling water and "see if it opens." He said sometimes you get a new one and it's bad. So I did that. The copper button moved out some, but how do I tell if it "opened?" Should I be able to see light through it at some points?
