I took the car in for an oil change...to a place I'd never been before and the mechanic said this. I've had no problems starting the car...

...the mechanic did not elaborate other than to say he recommeded a trickle charger. I do not have one and that's why I'm asking the question.

Is this why you took the car to the mechanic in the first place? Common sense tells me that if you only have 25% charge...then it obviously won't start the car. That is a very low percentage. If that is the reason you took the car there...and he says that...then change the battery. However if that isn't why it was there and he is saying that....go to the parts store and have the battery checked...for free of course.

You didn't say why you took the car to the mechanic in the first place so it's kind of hard to answer this without knowing this.

You neglect to say how old of a vehicle you have. Over the course of time, a battery wears down on its ability to hold a charge. I am not sure why he is telling you that you have 25% of a charge left. Most of the time when testing a battery, a tester is used that measures the COLD CRANKING AMPS of a battery. If your battery is rated at 550CCA and the measured amount is below that, you have a bad battery. Some testers also have the ability to tell if the battery has a bad cell inside, this is also a bad battery. Bad batteries do not get sent to their room, they get replaced.

first off there has to be a reason why ur battery is being drained. either ur alternator is toast, or there is an energy draw in ur car. at this point i would say buy a new battery but make sure to have the electrical in ur car checked out our it will kill ur new battery too.

That doesn't make any sense. No mechanic would just say that without elaborating.

if your battery only has 25% charge left you would have problems starting your engine. take your battery and have it checked. autozone can test it.
