My car is also reved up at a high R.P.M. and seems to not want to shift into over driver. The car is a 1990 lincoln towncar. (DAMN FORDS) ---also it seems as if my transmission is stuck also---it drives fine until i hit 50 mph after that it sounds as if my engine is rev'd up at a high rpm and refuses to shift into the next gear....if any one thinks that they can solve my problem by giving me some advice on what i should do to this car please do---if you're going to twell me i need to buy another car please dont even bother to reply to my question---thank you----you can also im me at the name capone_313 at yahoo--please instant message me if possible

i had the same transmission problem with my '93 taurus (damn fords!). there were other problems with my transmission so a mechanic told me that it had to be replaced. i just ended up buying a new car. but if you don't have money for a new car or repairs, if it doesn't want to shift, slow down til it shifts down and speed up again, it might shift properly, that worked for me. as for the gas mileage, it could be a lot of things from needing an oil change, a tune up, or properly inflating your tires. hope this helps.

i dont believe you have a vaccume valve on that transmission if you did you would see a steel line hith a little rubber hose at the end hooked to the valve you could pull that off and check for vaccume to me i think its in your valve body or clutches are bad ive replaced lots of transmissions in those fords and its hard to get a good one i believe your only hope is maybe somthing unpluged or your detent cable on your trans poped off. good luck
