I have a 1992 nissan maxima and the other day I hit a pretty deep puddle hard i thought it was just some water on the road. Now my car bucks when it accelerates. It was also idleing very badly for a few hours after I hit the puddle but that has stopped now but its still accelerating badly. What could the problem be? Thanks

you either have water in your air filter, intake tube, or you have a spark plug wire or wires that were damaged by the water. You can start the engine, open the hood and look at the plug wires to see if they are arching, it is better to check at night with no lights under the hood, you will be able to see the spark from the wiring and possibly hear the spark jumping across to the block.
You can remove the air filter and check to see if it is wet, if it is really wet, you might have ingested some water, which could have caused some serious engine damage.

You either knocked something like a vacuum hose off, soaked the air filter or still have water somewhere. The distributer is the usual culprit. If your air cleaner is full of water, you're risking trashing the engine if it breathes in too much. Water doesn't compress very well.
